Will Beijing Olympics be boycotted?

April 12th, 2008 by Melvin

You’ve heard about it almost anywhere in newspapers, news and radio. You’ve even heard it from your friends about the widespread protests on Beijing Olympics. (2nd hottest debate to Mas Selamat Escapade. He might be enjoying eating Rambutans in the jungle though.)
China’s handling of the unrest in Tibet, rocked last month by the worst anti-government riots in decades, has sparked calls for an Olympic boycott.

Though China government has tried to draw the line between China’s politics and their own glorious event, Olympics 2008, people worldwide are still not convinced. Do you think that China government do not have enough human rights to their own people or rather, the Tibetans?

Presently, organizers were forced to cut short of the relay or make last minute route changes to avoid waiting protesters. But is it good news for Pro-Beijing Olympic supporters?

Protesters have made the relay an inconvenient experience to organizers and fans worldwide. Olympic Touch relay has been playing ‘Hide and Seek’ in San Fransisco and personally, I think it’s going to play ‘Hide & Seek’ till it reaches back in Beijing.

“I’m disappointed, annoyed, tired, frustrated. I mean, it’s not every day you get to see the Olympic torch.” - Miss Sydnet Sullivan, 18.

“We were cheated, because I think the meaning of the relay was to show the whole world that our country is hosting the Olympics.” - Mr Micheal Huo, a Chinese engineer working in the US.

(See figure on the left, Map of San Fransisco) Red line is the original route but however, the route was modified and shortened to the blue line.

Dear Readers, what are your views and say? Post up a comprehensive and detailed comment on your thoughts, views on Beijing Olympics and whether should the Beijing Olympic Relay continue or boycott it (for the safety of civilians over Anti- Beijing Olympic Terrorism)?
