Asian Idol
December 17th, 2007 by
I was so surprised to hear Ata announced Hady Mirza’s name as the first Asian Idol (just like Melvin). Frankly I think Hady owes his achievement to his fans in Singapore and also to his looks. Let’s face it, did you think he had the best vocals in the show? No. BUT whatever it is, he did Singapore proud so I shall not rant further. Congratulations!
Apart from Hady’s victory, there are other things about this little Asian Idol competition that really puzzles me. One thing is for sure, the planning and execution of this regional competition sucks to the core. You really have to excuse my language here but who the hell organized this competition? There was too much publicity for Mike (Indonesian Idol) with him performing so many times tonight and so much emphasis of his name during the entire show. Yes, I understand the fact that Asian Idol is held in Jakarta, but that’s not a good enough excuse.
Hady and Jaclyn sang the song ‘Freedom’ originally sang by George Michael together and boy do you have to hear what Malaysian host Kui Jien had to say after their performance, “Singapore and Malaysia in perfect harmony. Something you don’t get to see very often.” Somehow I cannot deny the amount of truth behind his statement. It’s just that something as sensitive as this shouldn’t be said on a show that is being broad casted to so many countries around the region. Ah, Just ignore me. *Pedra Branca* (more…)

Amy Winehouse… what a talented drunkard!
November 17th, 2007 by
Personally, I only know the song ‘Rehab’ from her but judging from what I’ve been able to gather, apparently people think she’s the shitnitz. That, and I also know that she’s quite the drinker (unlike one of my friends…).

Senseless
March 21st, 2007 by
Have you ever sat down and listen to a song so intently only to realise that your favourite song actually made no sense? Sometimes there are words with no meaning, sentences and phrase that don’t even link or just words used to fill the music to make it a song. (more…)

Yes, we all would have known by now that the winner of Singapore Idol 2 is none other that Hady Mirza. It’s pointless for me to go on repeating about how similar this year’s idol competition is to the last season. If you haven’t catch that entry, click here.
The thing that really surprised me was the huge difference in the percentage of votes between the both contestants. This year Hady thrash Jonathan Leong with a dominating 70% of almost 1 million votes. I still thought that Jon and Hady wouldn’t have much of a difference in the amount of votes, I was taken aback when The Newpaper released the information yesterday.
To my opinion, Jonathan’s fans were probably too confident, thinking that Jon would be the clear winner and assuming that more people would vote for him while Hady’s fans were insecure and decided to vote more for the poor lad. What do you think?
No I am not in denial here; I just feel that our Idol should have a little diversity. Look at any other reality competition held in Singapore, all the winners are MALE (except for Absolute Superstar because they had a male and female section). Majority of voters in Singapore are usually the teenage girls and naturally they would have voted for their favourite male superstars. But for both consecutive Singapore Idol competitions our top 3 had the same demographics. and at the end, the winner is still a Malay.
Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a Malay winner neither am I being racist. I just feel that as a multi racial country like Singapore, we should have a little more diversity.
Years back when foreigners were asked about Singapore, they would question “is it part of China?” Now with vast improvements in technology, reality hits like Singapore Idol can be viewed by anyone in the world (not only the show, maybe through the net), so now foreigners will ask, “is this a Malay country?”
So think about it.
I know many of you would argue that it is based on talent. To my opinion Jonathan has much more talent and potential than Hady Mirza and I am sure Ken Lim would definitely agree with me. He could easily be a regional star, Hady is very consistent. And sometimes being too consistent can get a little boring.
Jonathan speaks very naturally on screen and on stage and Hady tends to slang. WHO DESERVES TO BE OUR IDOL??? It has to be someone who can represent us well.

Bye Two Hill, Hi Singapore Idol Cliche
September 7th, 2006 by
Well, I wasn’t surprise that Paul Twohill was eliminated from the competition afterall he was the weakest there, vocally and secondly he was out because he didn’t fit into the Singapore Idol ‘Template’.
What do I mean by Singapore Idol template you might ask? Well, previously we all know that Olinda piggy pig, Sylvester pouty mouth and Taufiq buttkisser made it as top 3 for SI season 1. This year the trend is repeating itself again, with 1 girl and 2 guys, 2 chinese and 1 malay. Thus you get your Singapore Idol Template.
Mere coincidence? Not really, let’s just take a look at the second weakest contestant amongst the Idol hopefuls, Jasmine. Clearly Paul Twohill has more fans than Jasmine’s thigh, sorry I meant Jasmine Tye. So why is he out of the competition? Like I said, he didn’t fit into the Singapore Idol template.

So many fans were devastated about tonight’s results. And I can place my bets now that Jasmine will be the next one to get elimated. If I lose my bet, I’ll…. I’ll…. dedicate an entry to her? Good enough? No? Ah whatever, she’s going out anyway.
Gurmit was also affected by the ousting of Paul. So much, that he couldn’t remember the names of the judges. And I would just like to tell Gurmit to stop making it look like he invented “Sei Sei Sei, uFOOOOOOOOOOOOO” and tell everyone on National TV that it is an inside joke (last night’s spectaculars). That seriously has no originality. He ripped it off from our favourite HARD GAY!!!
Oh, and if you are looking at the picture up there… Jasmine is so much better than Olinda right? Maybe not in terms of voice. But it physical presence, Jasmine is a clear winner. Olinda disgust me.

Goodbye Rahimah Rahim!
August 10th, 2006 by
I was seated in front of the TV, crossing my fingers and praying that Paul Twohill and Jonathan Leong stays in the competion when suddenly, *Ting* Rahimah Rahim was eliminated!! Woo hoo!
No pun intended to her fans, everyone is entitled to what they have to say, what they wanna feel. And from the very beginning, I’ve always disliked Rahimah Rahim.
The intensity of her singing has an adverse effect on the articulation of her words. Like how the lyrics of Confessions of a Broken Heart by Linsay Lohan changes from ‘Daughter to Father…’ to ‘Daughter to Far-thierr…’
The amount of emotions she injects into her renditions are so potent that it really makes me wanna cry and vomit at the same time. Rahimah Rahim, commonly known to her fans as Ima seriously needs a behavior therapist.
She cried a couple of times (2 times on national Tv) because she couldn’t take the stress of the competition. Everytime she enteres the bottom 3 contestants of the competition, Ima becomes an Emo monster. Looking down on the ground, becoming quiet acting like it’s the end of the world and all. She’s clearly over reacting?
If she’s voted safe, she’ll go into a fit, covering her face with her hands and taking in deep breaths. But finally today, she recovered from her fit cause I didn’t see her do that. Instead we saw a video of her acting emo, talking about her journey in Singapore Idol and what not.
Maybe she’s just too young for a competition like this, being 16 and all. She should join Kids Central 1 minute of fame or something. At least it caters to her kinda behavior, you know the ‘I am so gonna cry if I lose’ kinda behavior.
Well, at the end of the day I am so glad that she’s not going to win this competition.
Go Jonathan and Hardy!!

Singapore Idol on Bondevia
June 22nd, 2006 by
Did you watch the Results show for the Gals Episode 4 just now? I did, and I was disappointed again.
The Guys’ episodes were highly predictable I must say, you could actually guess who will be going into the top 12. Episode 1, It was pretty easy to say Jonathan (I wonder if all Jonathans are this good :D) and Paul Twohill will be breezing into the top 12. Episode 3 Joakim and Hardy also looked very promising.
Thing is, I didn’t want Rahimah Rahim and Emilee to get in?? What happened to Geraldine? Rahimah’s performance to my opinion was horrible. So much exaggeration and her voice was 100% unnatural. Well, some of you might disagree with me, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that’s how I feel about that crybaby.
Did you see her face while waiting for the results to be announced? That girl was on the verge of bursting into tears. If she did I would be so tempted to find some way to slap her. I know she a girl afterall, why can’t I understand that right? I just can’t! Joining a prestigious competition like Idol definitely requires you to go through alot of stress and yes ALOT OF CRITICISM. If you can’t take it, don’t join it!
She’s related to the famous Rahimah Rahim. Apparently she’s her aunt’s IN-LAW. So there is not trace of the famous singer’s blood in her at all, might as well don’t say it.
As for Emilee, hey girl! What up with all the curly wurly words? Just listening to you makes me feel that you belong to Channel U’s Jue Dui Super Star (however you spell the Chinese Han yu Pin Yin). No, you don’t belong to Singapore Idol. I seriously think Meryl should be in the Top 12.

So, they were announcing which ousted contestant will re-enter the competition through the wild card rounds. And I was so delighted to see that both Meryl and Geraldine got in! But I saw something that wasn’t pleasant at all. And I am pretty sure that I wasn’t the only one.
Meryl got called out first before Geraldine. When geraldine’s name was called, she walked over to the chosen contestants and hugged them one by one until she reached Meryl, she just by passed her and when on to hug Jay. Well if I recall correctly it was Geraldine who was bitching about Meryl during the boot camp episode. And Meryl still attempted to try to give Geraldine a hug. Poor showmanship for Geraldine BUT I still love her.
