Condolences to Lydia Shum Din-Ha

February 19th, 2008 by Melvin

Lydia Shum Din-Ha (Chinese: 沈殿霞, July 21, 1947 – February 19, 2008), also known as Lydia Sum, was a Hong Kong comedian and actress known for her size. Regularly sporting her signature dark rimmed glasses and her bouffant hairstyle , she was affectionately known to peers and fans as Fei-fei (肥肥, literally Fat Fat or Fatty), and appeared in numerous Hong Kong films.

Lydia, aged 60, died on 19 February 2008 of liver cancer, following a prolonged bout of complications related to a cholescystectomy done in 2002.

We would not forget her jovial acts on Mediacorp, Living with Lydia and her drama theme song with lyrics on all the famous ‘Tim Sum’s delicacies instilled in my mind. She was a talented lady with a great command in Cantonese, English and Chinese language thus; she has captured many audiences regionally with her quirky, funny acts on Hong Kong serials and movies.

On the behalf of my Bondevia mates, we wish her all the best in the next world and may she continues to pursue her passion in acting for the spirits above.

First was MC King, Second was Ah Meng and now, Lydia. What’s next?

Comment on it to fill in Lydia’s Condolences.

Singlehood

March 21st, 2007 by Jonathan

Let’s discuss something that cannot be experienced by everybody, being Single.

It is a privilege, an entitlement to extreme freedom. The ability to do what you like and love (provided it’s nothing against the law) without having to report to anyone. No commitments to anyone, going out with whoever you please. Being single is not that bad actually, but these are just the advantages. (more…)

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Prom Night 2007

March 14th, 2007 by Jonathan

My deepest apologies for delaying this entry. It’s all thanks to Angela, who took like 2 weeks to send us the pictures. Okok, I’m not going to blame her for my mistakes,  I had my collection of pictures too, but it was just too little of myself and too many redundant videos! Wahaha. Shouldn’t have underestimate the event, I only brought a 512mb SD card. Pathetic aye.

Ok, to begin let’s start by introducing the place. Conrad Centennial. World Renown Business hotel, Conrad played a valuable role in the 2006 IMF meetings in Singapore by accommodating the Chief of the IMF in its premises. I still don’t understand why you can mention the name Conrad to some people and they would say, “Is is a good hotel anot? Never hear before leh.” Pardon my usage of Singlish, it’s pretty common in the sunny Island of Singapore. Anyways, we paid a total of S$75.00 to attend this ‘once-in-a-lifetime-pain-in-the-butt-with-horrible-food’ event and boy was it a waste of my money.

The food from such a famous hotel was Horrible (Except for the dessert which was some really neat chocolate cake with a thin piece of biscuit nicely concealed within the chocolate). Other than that, the only thing decent on the table was the bread served to us right at the beginning. Salmon tar tar looked like cat food, the Cream of Chicken soup looked like phlegm and the Chicken felt like stuffing sponge in your mouth. ‘Oh come on, I’m sure it’s not that bad?‘ you might say. Hell yea it was that bad!! Nonetheless, the entertainment was world class. It’s not surprising since they outsourced the entertainment company. So I’ll take it that I’m paying S$75.oo to have a good show, just to console myself a little.

Alright, enough of blabbering already I’m pretty sure you would rather see pictures than to hear me rant about the horrible food.

Here’s a video of the Bollywood dance skit. The MC was really professional.

And here are some pictures. Love my friends to bits.

The true beauty of CNY

February 23rd, 2007 by Jonathan

These are my tiles during one of the Mah Jong games we played.

woooo
And sorry Ms Chen Wei, I have to post this. But who would actually throw out an animal tile? She threw out the Chicken as she mistaken it for being the 1st bamboo tile (the parrot)
Pok Pok
This is the Chicken tile, it is actually a ‘power tile’ which gives you to right to win in any style you like. Eg. consecutive numbers or 3 of the same tiles. Apparently she thought it was the 1st bamboo tile.
bamboo

Can’t stop laughing!! Oh by the way, I don’t know how to play Mah Jong.

The Last Day

February 1st, 2007 by Jonathan

Whoosh!’ Just like that, 5 months passed, attachment is over.

I cannot deny that I dread going to work almost every single day, not because of the people but because I hated shift work and I wanted to chill with the boys.

Today, I woke up in the morning, again dragging myself out off bed to go to work. I was feeling fine, pretty psyched at the fact that I’m only left with 1 day. I went through 7 out of 8 hours feelings so happy until a fellow colleague (John) who is having his off day tomorrow (my last day) decided to bid me farewell. It was at that moment, when he laid his hands on my shoulder, that I finally realised I’m never coming back here again, as a worker.

The feeling was horrible, my tear glands started to swell. One moment I’m all crazy for the end, and the next thing you know I morph into an emotional pussy. I hated goodbyes, ever since I was a kid. And today I’ll be saying goodbye to a place I call my second home for 5 months, to friends that I would never have met anywhere else but at Grand Plaza Park Hotel.

The last time I felt this way was during my 6 week attachment at the Ministry of Trade and Industry. But 6 weeks compared to this, my emotions are like tenth folds. So many people to thank, where should I start?

There’s Jess, Nora, Maybelline, Lydia, Irene, Kylie, Joanne, Deborah, Masturah, Diana, Mardiana, Mardalena, Jasmine, Shahidah, Kanitha, Naren, Khairul, Hairul, Mary, Ranjitha, Leonard, Melinda, Siew Hong, John Matthew, Papa Jon, Tracy, Eden, Agnes, Maslinda, Abbie, Elizabeth, Aunty Mei Ling, Aunty May, Aunty Ani, Aunty Lim Bo Seng, Ms Jane Foo, Ms Chia, Suppiah, Connie, Shirley, Sazali, Mr Andy, IRWAN!!! and did I miss anybody? Pardon me if I did, I’m too emotional right now.

Without them, the Parkroyal family wouldn’t be complete. Thank You so much. Of course I couldn’t miss out 1 final person to thank, the one who sat with me twice at the base of Fullerton Bridge to gaze at shooting stars, the one who listened to all my problems and didn’t run away, the one who never fails to make me smile at work, Azaleas.

It’s a pity we reached a turning point right at the end of our attachment. But I still have to thank you for all the memories. All the best to you and Edwin :) I’m sure he would take good care of you.

Well enough of being emo, life has to move on. I’m happy to have worked with such wonderful people. I’m contended, really I am.

Oh My Tian (God)!!!

January 31st, 2007 by Jonathan

I can’t believe it. 2 days! Just 2 days. Not 2 months, not 2 weeks, not 2 days!! Ok, it’s 2 days, but god knows when you’re reading this entry it’s least than 2 days already! Whatever it is, I’m pretty psyched for the end of my attachment. On the other hand, I’ll be sad to leave all my colleagues, friends for the past 5 months.

I feel blessed to be posted to a company that is so closely knitted. Except for the stupid housekeeping department. I love the aunties there though, they’re really nice, and of course to the nice chamber maids also. I only hate evil slit eye queen, bull dog and ice queen. Other than these stupid dimwits, my attachment was a blast!

I’m going to stop ranting like a bimbo already.

2 days!! Just 2 days!!

The Decision

January 29th, 2007 by Jonathan

Before I begin anything I would like to express my warmest gratitude to all who have supported me to court the ‘girl of my dreams’.

I regret to announce that maybe certains weren’t meant to be. Yes, I concede defeat. It was a battle of emotions and at the end of the day she was the one who couldn’t decide for herself what she wanted in life. No she’s not evil, Wahaha, she’s just sandwiched between two guys and their incremental greed for her loving. In a way or another the things she is doing, I feel, is pretty unfair to me. Don’t wish to elaborate on that.

I think I’ve reached a point where I feel nonchalant about everything that’s going on, I’m not trying to show my weakness. I’d rather look at it from the point of view of being strong enough to let go. I’m tired Azaleas, really I am. If your feelings for me is mutual, you would have controlled yourself when you are out with Edwin. I’m sorry, I’m not the type of person who shares. And I am pretty sure your boyfriend-to-be is not willing to share either. It’s unfair, just plain unfair.

I’m sorry, I don’t love you no more. People I care about don’t treat me like thrash.

On a positive note, my attachment is ending soon. And boy do I have big plans in the upcoming months. Yes, really big plans for the blog and of course for my life. So stay tune!

My Little Confessions of the heart.

January 18th, 2007 by Jonathan

In the tiny heart of Bondevia. There’s only space for a few things.

My readers, you are all my friends. So don’t think I’ve left you out! :)
I apologise for looking like a love fool on my blog. But honestly, I’ve never felt like this in a long time!

A day at work

January 12th, 2007 by Jonathan

Let me give you an insight to how my work life is like at the Grand Plaza Park Hotel City Hall.

The Park Privileged Club
Formerly known as Orchid Club

That’s me and Azaleas doing the preparations for a check-in. The Park Privileged Club (can be a pain to pronounce on the phone, especially when you talk too fast) is an executive level for VIPs only where they get very exclusive service. How exclusive? I’ll allow your imaginations to run wild! :) The lady seated is Ms Maybelline Teo. She’s the Front Office Manager, you can say that she makes the big decisions around the hotel, since Front Office is the main department in the Hotel.

I like this girl. Alot. But I’m too cowardly to do anything at all. Now she’s probably moving on with another guy. What else can I do but to be supportive? :)

People here can testify that I’m a really fast learner. Haha.

The Operator Room

The place where staff come to rest, chill and chit chat. Also a place to die of stress, especially every Monday and Tuesday when all the calls from the weekends come in.

Va-Va-Voom is none other than Jasmine Kaur. Jovial and bubbly, this girl is CRAZY!! Haha. Totally enjoy her company!

Tracy is always finding an opportunity to touch me! Haha! Congratulations in advance for your wedding girl!

The Laundry/Linen Room

The ultimate stress free paradise.

Mr Sazali insisted on taking a photo with me beside the washing machine. I have no idea why? Maybe to remember him as ‘The Laundry Man’.

My God mothers of the hotel. Seriously, I’m so pampered in the linen room. Especially Aunty Mei Ling (the one on the extreme right). She’s owns man!

Lastly, the most ultimate team in the whole world. Team Jon!

Freedom

August 24th, 2006 by Jonathan

Woo Hoo!! Finally my exams are over. Now I am free for 10 days before I start my attachment at Grand Plaza Park Royal Hotel. Damn, everyone gets a 2 month holiday before school starts again, and I only get 10 days.

My attachment will last me, say 5 months and 2 weeks? I’ll be done most probably on Feb 02, 2007. I’ll be officially graduated by then, Time really flies huh??

Suddenly I feel that I am going to lose my social life. First because of my unpredictable working schedule (it’s either the 7-3pm shift or 3-11pm shift) dang right? And second, my working schedule might not tally with the schedule of my friends. I’m goign to miss so many people, especially Slackaroo and Molomolo, my 2 best pals.

Well, at least I know I am still able to club when I ‘m on the later shift. So who want’s to book me for clubbing cause it really has been be long time since I clubbed and enjoyed myself. Momo 2 weeks ago was a disappointment I must say, but I don’t wanna go on talking abt the past all over again.

So my schedule for next week is more or less booked already. Hopefully my friends and I will be making our way to JB with SGD20.00 to see what can we do there. We don’t wanna get robbed you see, and we feel SGD20.00 is enough to do alot in Malaysia. Haha. we’ll see.
