Spirit Photography

March 29th, 2008 by Jonathan

Shinrei Shashin also known as Spirit Photography is a very common phenomenon these days all thanks to technological advancement allowing almost everyone to own a decent camera phone. But we know human beings have the tendency to over exaggerate on things all the time, sometimes what appears to be a ’spirit’ in a photo is not a spirit at all.

Tiny orbs (bubbly looking entities) appearing in photographs have always been mistaken as spiritual entities. And we have self acclaimed professional paranormal organisations zooming into the orbs to try to get an image out of it. Which is kinda stupid because the more you zoom into a photograph the more it gets pixelated. And again it is a natural tendency for us humans to see what we want to see. It’s a matter of Perception influencing Perspective. On most occasions the orbs you see in your pictures are merely the reflection of the flash light when a dust particle is in front of the lens. Yes I know dust particles are small and nearly invisible to the naked eye. BUT when something so bright like a camera flash gets reflected by the surface of the dust, it gets amplified. Simple right? Then how do I explain the high frequency of orbs appearing in abandoned places (ie. Old Changi Hospital)? The answer is simple. Do you see people cleaning up abandoned places? No. So naturally they are more dusty compared to say your house?

If you’re really interested in Shinrei Shashin, then you’re in luck. ‘Cause if you’ve been a loyal Bondevia reader, you would have seen some of our paranormal entries in the past. Here’s one of the more puzzling pictures keep in my database.

OCH

I can swear that there were only 6 of us there that day at good Old Changi Hospital. Neither am I implying that the 7th shadow is really a spiritual entity. It could really be a coincidence, probably from another light source somewhere else casting just 1 shadow onto the walk. It’s not surprising as you can see there’s a distance between the 7th shadow and the other 6. The only thing that bothers me is that the 7th person looks like its wearing a skirt? No one was wearing a skirt.

Here’s another picture, after increasing the brightness of the photograph. In layman’s terms, this would ultimately mean that the photo has been manipulated and that I did it just so to achieve what I want to see (Perception influencing Perception). This is because if I didn’t increase the brightness of the photograph, the figure wouldn’t be there at all. Nonetheless, I’ll still post it up for your viewing pleasure.

OCH

Pfft. I trick myself sometimes. See my point about zooming into the picture and causing it to become pixelated? This was what I meant. But the ‘Professional Organisation’ I was referring to zoomed in even more than I did. To the extent of having the pixels form a face. Ridiculous.

I am a firm believer of science. I am sure there is a logical explanation for everything. If there isn’t, then I’ll just wait for one. Science is developing every single day, eventually there will be an explanation. But at least we learned something today and that is Perception influencing Perspective (PiP).

If you have any interesting photographs that you want to share, send it in to my email.
