JI detainee Mas Selamat Kastari escapes from Singapore detention centre
February 27th, 2008 by
Recent Update on 28th February.
A poem by Its_enough from Asiaone forum on the recent escapade of a limping terrorist.
Terrorist Escape
Shame, Shame Singapore Police Force,
You claim glory over terrorist fought.
But unable to keep him under lock,
Put Singaporeans to horror shock.
They also make a mockery of their lot,
Ask high salary for lousy jobs.
In front of public you talk rots,
Sing a melody to the pig god.
You greatly deserve to be mocked,
For your duties carried out short.
Can they protect us from suicide plots?
The press your news had rocked.
Hold you tongue and stop all talks,
Sack the head of SPFas ought.
Search till he come back under lock
This is another news diversion course.
Terrorist our country has none,
Internal agents and lackey in tons.
Of criminal activities they make fun,
…..
I am extremely utterly disappointed with the security of Singapore now. The polices are really sleeping or catching drunk drivers for the moment. Because for the fact, this terrorist was claimed to be limping and therefore, how is he able to run out from Singapore Detention Center and wasn’t caught? Once again, Singapore security is being flawed as one of the terrorist from JI is at large. He might be beside you watching a movie, Cloverfield. He might be eating Punggol Nasi Lemak and sits the table across you. He might visit Singapore Flyer on 1st March (where it opens to public) with a big bag pack and viewing Indonesia when the Ferris Wheel reaches its peak.
Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) detainee Mas Selamat Kastari escaped from a Singapore detention centre on Wednesday.
A statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) says Mas Selamat escaped from the Whitley Road Detention Centre at 4:05pm. Mas Selamat was the leader of the Singapore JI network. MHA says he walks with a limp and is presently at large. He is not known to be armed.
Extensive police resources have been deployed to track him down. Anyone with information about him can contact the police at 999.
Mas Selamat was arrested by the Indonesian police on Bintan island in January 2006 and then sent back to Singapore. He was wanted by Singapore authorities in connection with planned attacks on Changi airport. - Source from ChannelNewsAsia

aH - The New Unit to Measure Laughter
February 23rd, 2008 by
The next time you hear someone laughing, odds are you will most probably be using some strange empirical formula to calculate the laughter that he/she generates. And with that, the unit that you will use in the near future (along with your cm, m, V, W) is - aH.
Japanese professor Yoji Kimura believes laughter is a weapon that in healthy doses can end the world’s wars. The only problem is finding a way to measure it.
And so the expert on communications has invented a machine to chart out laughter — and a new unit of “aH” to calculate it.
“We have found that children laugh more freely, releasing 10 aH per second, which is about twice as much as an adult,” Kimura, a professor at Kansai University in the western city of Osaka, told AFP on Friday.
To measure laughter, he attaches sensors on the skin of a tested subject’s stomach, particularly the diaphragm, and detects muscle movements. The machine looks 3,000 times a second at electric elements normally produced in the body.
“I have a theory that humour detected in the brain gets directly discharged through the movement of diaphragm,” he said.
By checking the movement of the diaphragm and other parts of the body, it will be possible to see if a person is only pretending to laugh while also distinguishing different types of laughter such as derision and cynicism, Kimura said.
Kimura wants to make the measuring device as small as a mobile phone and possibly market it as a health and amusement gadget.
Someone will be getting this for Christmas. ![]()

Singapore ecstatic at winning Youth Olympics bid in 2010!!
February 22nd, 2008 by
Singapore will host the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010. The result was unveiled by IOC President Jacques Rogge at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded the Games to the city-state ahead of Moscow by a vote of 53 to 44. It will be the first time that Singapore is hosting a multi-disciplinary sporting event of such a magnitude.
Here is the video that shows the live coverage in Lausanne hours ago.
Here’s another video that shows the live coverage of Singapore St Andrew’s Road hours ago.Not really to criticize the Lausanne coverage channel but isn’t it too boring? I mean the male host was trying create tension on the results but most Singaporeans, especially me will be asking him to ‘get lost lah’ and throwing either left over love letters, pineapple tarts or bak kuas on the screen and get the results out soon. To be frank, I rather prefer getting the results from our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The spirit in St Andrew Road was filled with laughter and excitement. Where as for the live coverage in Lausanne, the audiences seemed to be paid 5cents per clap (You will get what I meant if you got the brains).
IOC President Jacques Rogge was not as candid or ‘hip’ as our Prime Minister who talk about blogging, creating Facebook Groups, setting up websites on the bid for SYO. What is most ironic was that the person giving the letter to the IOC President seems to be Amy Whitehouse’s Cousin. What do I mean? He looks like he’s ‘high’.

One thing was rather commendable was the sensitive microphone used in Lausanne as the tearing of the envelope was loud enough to be heard 3 meters away. (Psst! It might be a sound animation to create the tension of the results. Naughty eh? But creative.)
Lastly and most importantly for the entire post, CONGRATULATIONS SINGAPURA! 3,500 athletes, aged between 14 and 18, competing in 26 sports have to learn some basic Singlish! Hoorays!

Condolences to Lydia Shum Din-Ha
February 19th, 2008 by
Lydia Shum Din-Ha (Chinese: 沈殿霞, July 21, 1947 – February 19, 2008), also known as Lydia Sum, was a Hong Kong comedian and actress known for her size. Regularly sporting her signature dark rimmed glasses and her bouffant hairstyle , she was affectionately known to peers and fans as Fei-fei (肥肥, literally Fat Fat or Fatty), and appeared in numerous Hong Kong films.
Lydia, aged 60, died on 19 February 2008 of liver cancer, following a prolonged bout of complications related to a cholescystectomy done in 2002.
We would not forget her jovial acts on Mediacorp, Living with Lydia and her drama theme song with lyrics on all the famous ‘Tim Sum’s delicacies instilled in my mind. She was a talented lady with a great command in Cantonese, English and Chinese language thus; she has captured many audiences regionally with her quirky, funny acts on Hong Kong serials and movies.
On the behalf of my Bondevia mates, we wish her all the best in the next world and may she continues to pursue her passion in acting for the spirits above.
Comment on it to fill in Lydia’s Condolences.

February 14th, 2008 by
I’m not here to protest against Valentine’s Day and procrastinate why the hell humans celebrate Valentine’s Day but here are some true facts about woman and Valentine’s day.
2 Days ago, I went out with 2 friends, 1 currently attached and the another, awaiting to be attached. They were recking their brains on what to buy for their darlings and as for me, well… GO ORCHARD AND SEE CHIO BU (Pretty babes if your Hokkien sucks) AH.
Can’t see because you spend so much money on your girlfriend till you are unable to buy extra contact lens/spectacles?

Nevertheless, I wish everyone a loving, sweet, honey and Happy Valentine’s Day. <3 Eh, I didn’t know I have such a sweet tongue.
